Dear NMI Friends. . .

Just a few short weeks have passed since our NMI Convention!  I hope you were able to be there to be inspired by our missionaries, Dean Flemming, Monte Cyr, and our creative access missionaries.  It was a whirlwind, but a great day!  I’m in the middle of kid’s camps, family reunions, and getting ready to send our firstborn, Joanna, off to college. Lots of bittersweet days here!

There are several things I need to share with you today.  First of all, for those who did NOT receive the NMI resource CD or the prayer calendar at convention, I have enclosed them with this mailing.  If you need additional copies, please let me know.

I am also including a survey – just for my own benefit.  I really value your input and wish to make NMI as helpful to you as possible.  One of the important things in the survey is information on your contact preferences – email, US Mail, etc.   Our NMI Secretary, Sharron Sankovich, will be using a new email service to help with our electronic communication.   But, if you prefer receiving paper mail, that’s great – we just want to make sure we are able to get news into your hands!

Also – if you purchased, or are thinking of purchasing the Living Mission Adult Education curriculum – it has lots of information about Clean Water!

Remember Living Mission has a Facebook group,  it has lots of great resources to help you as you plan.  As you may know, our children are raising money right now for the Haiti Water Project.  This may be a good resource to help your children (and you) be more aware of the problem – and to raise the funds they are working for!

Speaking of Haiti Water Project, we have just a few short weeks left to raise money for this project for our children.  Of course, you can always contribute to Haiti Water Project, but the monies for our children’s project will be collected at our Children’s Mission Day, to be held on October 22!

Yes – this is a change.  We are trying to get away from the unpredictable weather of February!  This cuts short our time to raise money for this year’s project, but I know you will do your very best to make this happen. (Check out the stealable store from HWP for ideas) If you are using your VBS offerings for this project, please do not send them to Kansas City.  Send them North Central Ohio , or better yet, bring them to Children’s Mission Day in October!

Please pray for one of our district missionaries, David & Sylvia Potter. Just days before their return to Vanuatu, Sylvia was diagnosed with breast cancer.  They cancelled their return flight and, as I’m writing this letter, she has just come out of surgery.  I know they would appreciate your prayers.

If this is a new area of ministry for you – welcome!  I trust you will find this a fulfilling way to serve the Lord.  Please contact me if I can be of assistance to you in any way.

Serving with Your for His Kingdom,

Kathy

Dear NMI friends,

It's a beautiful June day here -- just the way I like it! I hope this finds you having a wonderful day! First of all -- welcome to all new NMI presidents! I trust you will find this a rewarding way to serve the Lord.

I have a few things to update you on today. The biggest things is - of course - convention! This is right around the corner--one more month. NMI Convention will take place on the campus of MVNU on Saturday, July 16. We will once again be joining the NYI and having our conventions together. Monty Cyr will be our speaker. I've never heard him, but have heard nothing but rave reviews! Dean Flemming will be with us as well. We will be meeting from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. This is a change, so please make note of it. If you have preteens participating in the Pre-teens in Action event--they will still need to meet at 8:00 am--but the rest of us will come together at 10:00am!

Enclosed in the USPS mailing sent on June 13 was the order form from Nazarene Publishing House. I am asking you to PLEASE fill this out and return it to me ASAP.   Since we are voting this year before the convention from 9:15 am to 10 am , it is simply much easier for the council to have all orders filled BEFORE convention begins. If you have questions or concerns, check out my contact information at the bottom of this message.

Also--you may bring backpacks, Crisis Care Kits(CCKs) and We Care travel sized toiletries. Remember, if your bring CCK's to Mount Vernon, you must send the required fee to Kansas City to help cover shipping to their final destination, plus bring $5 per box with you to NCO district for expenses in getting them to the drop off location.

Walk way between Wards(November 2009)
Please keep Taylor Myatt and his two friends who are biking across the USA this summer to raise money for the Nazarene hospital in Kudjip, Papua New Guinea, where Dr. Jim Radcliffe serves as a medical missionary with his family.. We are hoping to connect with Taylor by phone or Skype during our convention. Please check out their blog, Pedaling for PNG and if you want to contribute to this, I'm sure Taylor, and the Nazarene Doctors in PNG would greatly appreciate this.

Just a reminder--if you don't already know--we have a Facebook page. You do not need to be a member to get up to date info. Simply look at the Facebook news feed in the box found in the right navigation bar.  If you are a member of Facebook and would want to join us, simply "Like" us in the same box found in the right hand navigation bar.

(New for 2011/2012,  quarterly email newsletter via Constant Contact.  Subscribe today using the easy form found at the top of the right navigation bar.  Share with your church congregation!)

As always--please call or email me if you need more information or have questions. Again my contact information is below. I'm in and out a lot, but will do my best to answer in a timely manner.

Thanks for your involvement in NMI!

Kathy

NPH order forms have arrived!

They came yesterday!

I'd like to send them to the NEW presidents.  Did you or your church submit all the annual forms online so I have the contact info?  Remember no orders will be filled on the day of the convention only pick up of pre-orders will be available.

I'm headed out the door (literally) to BLAST - be home Saturday evening.  You have until then.  Sharron will download the info and send me whatever has been entered.

Hope to have the forms in the mail by Monday, 6/13!  Please return them by July 7.

The Cyr Family

Monte & Bethany Cyr (pronounced 'Sear') are Global Missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene on the Mesoamerica Region (formerly the Caribbean and Mexico/Central America regions).

Monte serves as the Regional Coordinator for Discipleship Ministries since March 2011. His main responsibilities include training leaders and Pastors, and working with districts and churches to develop relevant and effective discipleship strategies to make Christlike disciples in the nations.

Monte has also served as the Global NYI President from 2005-2009, giving leadership to our youth and youth leaders world-wide. Additionally, he has served as the Africa Region Youth Ministries Coordinator from October 1998 until July 2006, and the Caribbean Region Youth Ministries Coordinator from July 2006 until March 2011. Bethany provides support to Monte's ministry by helping with office work and she is very involved in the lives of their 4 children.

Monte graduated from Northwest Nazarene University with a B.A. in Religion in 1986.  He received his Master of Divinity Degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri in 1990.  Monte was a full time Youth Pastor from 1990 until their Missionary appointment in 1998.

Monte shares that God has called his family to invest their time, energies, and lives into the development of leaders and Christlike disciples.  Bethany testifies that God clearly spoke to her about her willingness to let go of family, friends and home to obey Him and follow His plan for their lives.  She feels very privileged that God is using them to bring glory to HIM!

Monte's home churches are Emmett, Idaho Church of the Nazarene and Boise, Idaho First Church of the Nazarene.  Bethany's home churches are Idaho Falls, Idaho Church of the Nazarene, and Boise, Idaho First Church of the Nazarene.  Monte and Bethany have four children:  Robbie (19), Amy (17), Bryan (15), and Nkele (10).
________________________________

Plan to hear Monty speak at the Combined NMI and NYI convention on Saturday, July 16 from 10 am to noon at MVNU Chapel.

April?? How did that happen?

April 13, 2011

One day at a time.

As I write to you, my husband and oldest daughter are in Haiti, joining a Work & Witness group from Denver.  Yesterday, today and tomorrow, they are in a primitive area, some sleeping in tents and “squat potties” for facilities.  Needless to say, my prayers for them are constant!  (update: they have returned as of April 19)

I have a lot to cover and will do so quickly.
First of all – if your church still has monies for the Children’s Heaven Train offering, please send those as soon as possible to our district financial administrator.  Our new project involves the Haiti Water Project.  I have enclosed a flyer of information.  I apologize for the quality.  Soon after this printing, we replaced our computer printer!   Also – there will be a date change for Children’s Missions Day this coming year.  It is being changed to October, to try to avoid winter weather.  So – this cuts short our time to save for the Haiti Water Project.  I just wanted to give you the heads up as you approach summer!!

30-Hour Famine
is quickly approaching!  Your teens have been informed of this at BLAST and were able to pick up packets there.  This is a great way to experience what children all over the world experience daily – hunger.  We will be meeting at Bedford church on Friday night where the kids will hear speakers and play games all centered on “hunger”.  Then, on Saturday, they will assist with Heaven Train, and other Cleveland area ministries.  On Saturday afternoon, they will come together for a meal before they leave for home.  Before coming, they will get sponsors to support them in their fast.  The money can go to our Nazarene work in Malawi, or to our work in Haiti.  You get to choose.  If your teens have not heard of this event, please let them know as soon as possible!  Details on our Facebook page.  Check out the latest feeds  on the right of this post!  While there – why not like our Facebook Fan club!

Lastly, we have some missionaries on the district in coming days.
Many have open dates.

Please consider hosting a missionary.  They would much rather come to your church than to be sitting in a hotel room.  Please contact Vicki Champer ASAP if you would be willing to host them.

The Riches from Ecuador are here the week after Easter – and have a lot of open evenings.  Dwight grew up in Haiti as a missionary kid and Carolyn was raised in Kansas.  Both are graduates of MidAmerica Nazarene University.  Dwight is also a graduate of Nazarene Theological Seminary.
Dwight is the field strategy coordinator for the South American North Andean Field which comprises the countries of Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela. Carolyn serves as the nurse for the Seminary, coordinates the Seminary food service, and is the office administrator for the North Andean field. The Riches have two children Bryan and Stefanie.

Perhaps a small group could host them one evening?

Check out PNG moments with the Myers
Our LINKS missionaries, the Myers, are here in June.  Please contact Vicki right away.

Okay – one more thing.
I know Easter is just days away.  Many of our churches still take Easter offerings.  The Global Church of the Nazarene is really struggling financially.  We have 100 less missionaries on the field than we did just three years ago.  We need to make this a matter of prayer and do all we can to help fund HIS mission!

Please call or email me (or send a Facebook message) if you have any questions!
I’d love to hear from you!

Kathy
